Week 13

Cord Cutting and what its doing to Cable Companies

You may not know what cord cutting is but you or your parents may have participated in this new trend on how you access your entertainment. Before Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime you probably watched your favorite television networks through cable t.v maybe with a dish or a t.v box. Cord cutting is the act of cutting ties with you cable provider and switching to streaming services like the ones I listed above. There are many reasons why people cut the cord, the primary reason is because it is more financially practical than having to pay a company $25-$100 a year depending on what kind of package or bundle you have when you don't even watch more than half the networks provided. Streaming services start as little as $5.99 a month where you can have access to multiple tv shows and movies on your own time and anywhere on the go. This makes it easier and more practical for kids and adults who are never home or want to enjoy watching tv somewhere other than home.

Here are some Pros and Cons of cord cutting that you may want to consider in the future:

Pros:
-You're saving $20-$100 a yea if you switch to streaming platforms depending on what kind of bundle or packages you have with your cable provider.
-Unlike cable tv you little to no advertising which really is a blessing if you hate having commercials ruining your watching tv time.
-You can get rid of your messy clutter of excessive cables, DVDs, tv boxes, etc that ruin the aesthetic of your living or bedroom.
-You're able to download a select amount of episodes or movies which you can watch off wifi or LTE.

Cons:
-Unfortunately streaming services will not have every tv show or movie that you please to watch so it is slightly limited on what kind of content that is being put on the service.
-You won't be able to watch tv if there's no wifi which really is a bummer - but with cable tv for the most part you're still able to watch television.
-It does get a little pricey if you have maybe more than three streaming platforms - also it starts getting a little inconvenient when you find yourself switching from one streaming service to another because it doesn't have a show you want.
